Dear Kari,
I just began online dating and I’m excited to report that I have met a very nice man. He lives two hours away from me, but we talk every day. He wants us to meet in person and I am nervous to do so. Everything about him seems to check out, but what if I meet him and he is less than I hoped? I am so tired of being single, but I don’t want to have my heart disappointed.

Dear Scared Tinderella,
First, congratulations on taking the chance to meet someone new. Online dating is very popular today for many reasons and should not be considered odd or desperate. That said, please consider meeting this new man in a public setting and updating your family and friends with his personal information (name, address, phone number). I hope that both of you have a good connection and are interested in moving forward with each other. If not, consider your efforts good in the sense that you took a chance on getting to know another person on this planet and potentially meeting a life partner. And remember, when we act towards our stated goals, we often get them. Good luck!
